ABOUT DAVID SHAVER

I have a doctorate in counseling from the University of Arkansas. Following graduation, I moved to Houston, Texas and studied Jungian psychology and completed a Jungian analysis with James Aylward – an analyst trained by Carl Jung in Zurich, Switzerland. In 1991 I enrolled at the Philadelphia School of Psychoanalysis, graduating five years later with a diploma in Freudian analysis. While in Philadelphia I completed my personal Freudian analysis with Marie Coleman Nelson. I am one of the very few psychoanalysts in the world to have completed both a Freudian and Jungian analysis and to be trained in both traditions.

In 1981 I began training in clinical hypnosis with the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis. ASCH is the only hypnosis training society fully approved by the American Medical Association. I remained a member of ASCH for twenty-three years acquiring its two highest credentials: Certification in Clinical Hypnosis and Approved Consultant in Clinical Hypnosis.

In 1997 I graduated from Yale University with a master’s degree in philosophy, with emphasis in the areas of philosophy of religion and philosophy of mind.

In addition to my private practice, I am an adjunct professor of clinical psychology at the University of Bridgeport College of Chiropractic Medicine.
